Third District Court Names Judge Skanchy as Presiding Judge

JUDGE SKANCHY NAMED PRESIDING JUDGE IN THIRD DISTRICT COURT
Salt Lake, UT—District Court Judge Randall Skanchy has been named presiding judge for the Third Judicial District for a two-year term. Judge Skanchy replaces Judge Royal Hansen who completed his term in July. Judge Ryan Harris has been named associate presiding judge.
The presiding judges are responsible for the effective operation of their courts. According to court Rule 3-104, presiding judges are responsible for implementation and enforcement of statutes, rules, policies and directives of the Utah Judicial Council as they pertain to the administration of the courts. The presiding judge is responsible for assigning cases and judges.
Presiding judges and associate presiding judges are elected by a majority vote of the judges of their court. When the presiding judge is unavailable, the associate presiding judge assumes his or her responsibilities.

Sevier County, UT—The Sevier County Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting on July 23, 2015, to select a candidate for the Aurora and Salina justice courts to replace Judge Les Scott who will retire Dec. 31, 2015. The commission will begin meeting at 1 p.m. at the Aurora City Offices, 20 South 120 East.
The early portion of the meeting is scheduled for public comment about issues facing the Utah judiciary and refinements or improvements to the system. Public comments are being accepted from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Following the public hearing, the meeting is closed to allow commission members to select a slate of three to five candidates for the vacancy.

WHAT: How does the Utah State Courts ensure equality and justice for all?
This question will be answered at community forums planned by the courts as part of a judicial outreach initiative. The forums have been planned with the understanding that judges and court personnel can make a difference in helping the public better understand the justice system. The belief is that public dialogue about the court system will benefit judges and court personnel by providing a means for them to better understand the issues in our communities, while the system as a whole will benefit by developing appropriate responses to public concerns.
