NOMINEE NAMED TO FILL PLAIN CITY JUSTICE COURT VACANCY

Plain City, UT— The Weber County Nominating Commission has announced the appointment of Bryan Jon Memmott to fill the Plain City Justice Court vacancy. The position will replace Judge James Beesley who retired from the bench on July 1, 2017.

Bryan J. Memmott obtained a Bachelor of Arts from BYU in 1999 and a Juris Doctor from Arizona State University College of Law in 2002. Following graduation from law school, Memmott was commissioned as an officer and served for nearly five years as a JAG in the United States Air Force. Upon honorably separating after his commitment, Memmott worked for Davis Miles, PLLC, in Arizona, as a civil litigation attorney. He left Davis Miles, PLLC, to open his own law firm, Brown & Memmott Law. In 2014 he decided it was time to move back home to Utah and has been working at Memmott & Associates, with a focuses on mediation, family law and civil litigation.

Memmott’s appointment to the bench is subject to completion of the court’s new judge orientation and certification by the Utah Judicial Council.

Ephraim, UT—The Sanpete County Nominating Commission has selected four nominees for upcoming vacancies in the Ephraim and Moroni Justice Courts. The position will replace Judge Ivo Peterson who retired effective June 30, 2017.

Following are the nominees followed by place of employment and residence:
• Larry W. Evans, Adjunct Professor at Utah Valley University and Deputy for the Utah County Sheriffs Office, resident of Springville
• Honorable Mark Kay McIff J.D., Justice Court Judge for Fairview City, Fountain Green City, Piute County, Sevier County and Spring City, resident of Richfield
• Rodney William Rivers, J.D., General Counsel at First Colony Mortgage, resident of Lindon
• Stephen William Whiting, J.D., Whiting and Jardine, LLC, resident of Vineyard
A comment period will be held through Aug. 3, 2017, before a final candidate is selected by the mayors of Moroni and Ephraim, who have 30 days to make appointments. Each appointment is subject to ratification by the City Council in each city. The Utah Judicial Council must then certify the appointments. Orderville, UT—The Kane County Nominating Commission has selected three nominees for an upcoming vacancy in the Orderville Town Justice Court. The position will replace Judge Steven Wallace who will retire effective Oct. 17, 2017.

JUSTICE COURT JUDGE SELECTION MEETING PLANNED

Ephraim, UT—The Sanpete County Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting on July 10, 2017, to select candidates for the vacancies in the Ephraim and Moroni Justice Courts to replace Judge Ivo Peterson who will retire effective June 30, 2017. The commission will begin the meeting at 4 p.m. in the Ephraim City Council Chambers located on 5 South Main Street in Ephraim.

The early portion of the meeting is scheduled for public comment about issues facing the Utah judiciary and refinements or improvements to the system. Public comments will be accepted from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Following the public hearing, the meeting is closed to allow commission members to select a slate of three to five candidates for the vacancy.

MORONI CITY JUSTICE COURT VACANCY EXTENDED

Moroni, Utah— The deadline for applications for a Justice Court judge position in Moroni City has been extended to June 30, 2017. The position will replace Judge Ivo Peterson who will retire effective June 30, 2017.

To be considered for a Justice Court judgeship in Sanpete County, candidates must be at least 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States, a Utah resident for at least three years, and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. In addition, candidates must be a resident of the county in which the court is located—or an adjacent county—for at least six months.

Information on judicial retention and performance evaluation is posted on the Utah State Courts’ website at legacy.utcourts.gov. An application for judicial office form must be completed and is available on the courts’ website (legacy.utcourts.gov/admin/jobs). Please note that the application has been updated since June 2016.
