JUDGE ERNEST W. JONES

Judge Ernest W. Jones is an Active Senior Judge. He was appointed to the Second District Court by Gov. Michael O. Leavitt in August 2000 where he served Davis, Morgan, and Weber Counties. Judge Jones received a law degree from the University of Utah School of Law in 1974. He was the Clinton City attorney, worked at the Utah Attorney General's Office, the Weber County Attorney's Office, and the law firm of Olmstead, Stine and Campbell. Judge Jones was employed with the Salt Lake County District Attorneys Office (1980 to 2000) at the time of his appointment to the bench. Judge Jones received the Most Valuable Prosecutor Award and Salt Lake County Employee of the Year award while employed by the county. Judge Jones is LTC (Ret.), Staff Judge Advocate, U.S. Army Reserves, 87th LSO, Ft. Douglas. He served on the Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Criminal Jury Instructions and was a member of the 2003 Judicial Conference Planning Committee. Judge Jones served as a Drug Court judge in Weber County and was a member of the Board of District Court Judges. Updated 10/21/21
