SEVENTH DISTRICT COURT JUDGES


PRESIDING JUDGE GEORGE HARMOND

PRESIDING JUDGE GEORGE HARMOND

Judge George M. Harmond, Jr. was appointed to the Seventh District Court in December 2005 by Gov. Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. He serves Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan counties. Judge Harmond received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, and a law degree in May 1981 from Creighton University School of Law. Judge Harmond was in general private practice from October 1981 until his appointment to the bench. In addition to his private practice, Judge Harmond served as Deputy Carbon County Attorney from 1987 to 2005. He was appointed to the Utah Board of Water Resources by Governor Michael O. Leavitt in April 2003 and served until December 2005. 

ASSOCIATE PRESIDING JUDGE DON M. TORGERSON

ASSOCIATE PRESIDING JUDGE Don M. Torgerson

Judge Don M. Torgerson was appointed to the Seventh District Court in July 2018 by Governor Gary R. Herbert. He serves Grand, San Juan, Carbon, and Emery counties. Judge Torgerson graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2004. He was a private practice attorney from 2004 until his appointment to the bench, maintaining a broad civil litigation and criminal practice that included both trial and appellate work. His private practice included work as juvenile-court parental defender, criminal public defender, and appellate public defender in Carbon, Grand, San Juan, and Emery counties. He has also been involved with drug court programs since 2005, serving as defense counsel to two adult drug courts and two child-welfare adult drug courts. He currently presides over the adult drug court in San Juan County. 1/19 

JUDGE JEREMIAH HUMES

JUDGE Jeremiah Humes

Judge Jeremiah C. Humes was appointed to the Seventh District Court in January 2020 by Governor Gary R. Herbert. He serves Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties. Judge Humes received his undergraduate degree from Utah State University in 2000 and graduated with Dean's Honors from the Washburn University School of Law in 2002. He worked in private practice for seventeen years. In addition to his private practice, Judge Humes served as a Deputy County Attorney for thirteen years and then as Carbon County Attorney until his appointment. For twelve years he also enjoyed teaching in the Criminal Justice and Peace Officer Standards and Training programs at Utah State University Eastern. Judge Humes served for fifteen years as defense or prosecution in drug court programs. He currently presides over the Emery County Adult Drug Court Program. He also currently serves on the Utah State Bar's New Lawyer Training Program Committee. 1/22
