Judge Kevin Christensen was appointed to the Box Elder County Justice Court in May 1996. He serves Box Elder County, Tremonton City, Brigham City, Garland City, and Willard City. Judge Christensen is a graduate of Weber State University and the Gonzaga University School of Law. He was in private practice before being appointed to the bench. In addition to his judicial and family duties, Judge Christensen often speaks to various youth and civic groups about the structure and function of the court system. In 2006, Judge Christensen received the Scott M. Matheson Award for outstanding service to law-related education. 5/06 

Appointed to the justice court bench in 2012, Judge Trevor L. Cook serves in the Nibley City, Mendon City and Rich County justice courts. Judge Cook graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in management and human resources, and earned a law degree from Texas Southern University. He is also employed as in-house counsel. 9/17 

Judge Lee Edwards was appointed as the justice court judge for Logan City in June 2019. He graduated from Weber State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science and Spanish. In 1996, Judge Edwards graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University with a Juris Doctorate. Judge Edwards has worked as a city prosecutor, assistant city attorney for the City of Logan, and as chief civil deputy county attorney for Cache County. 9/19 

Judge Matthew Funk was appointed to the Richmond Justice Court in 2009. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Utah State University in 1996 and a Master's degree in Accounting from Utah State University. Judge Funk serves as the treasurer for the Utah Justice Court Judges Association. 9/17  

Judge Paul K. Larsen was appointed to the Hyrum City Municipal Justice Court in 2012. He had earlierserved for 10 years as the Smithfield City Justice Court judge. He graduated from Utah State Universityand earned a law degree from Western State University College of Law of San Diego. Judge Larsenserved for three years as Director and Education Officer for the Utah Justice Court Association for theFirst Judicial District. He served five years on the Logan City Planning Commission and serves asAdministrative Hearing Examiner for Logan City and as Appeal Authority for Smithfield and Hyrum cities.He enjoys educating civic groups and students about the legal system from a judges perspective. 9/17 

Judge Matthew David Lorz was appointed to the North Logan and Hyde Park Justice Courts in June 2019. Judge Lorz graduated from Utah State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation Management. Following his undergraduate studies, Judge Lorz received a Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2010. Judge Lorz also attended and completed his last semester of law school at S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah as a visiting student. Following law school, Judge Lorz has been in private practice. He began his career working at a Salt Lake insurance defense firm. Judge Lorz moved back to Cache Valley in 2012 to join the law firm of Peck Hadfield Baxter & Moore, LLC, where he primarily handles personal injury and civil litigation. 9/19 

Judge Kevin L. Nelson has served the Mantua Justice Court since 1992. He graduated from Weber State University in computer science, attended the National Judicial College, and earned a Certificate in Legal Studies from the Justice Court Judges Legal Institute. Judge Nelson has served on the Utah Judicial Council and the Board of Justice Court Judges. In 2002, he received the Judiciary's Quality of Justice Award, and in 2008, the Justice Court Service Award was presented to him in acknowledgement of his contributions. Judge Nelson's committee work has focused on improving the judicial process through the use of technology. Currently, Judge Nelson is serving as the Presiding Justice Court Judge for the First District. 7/29/22
